Happy Memorial Day!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

I hope you take today to reflect upon all our military men and women who are serving; protecting us from harms way.   Some have given us the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety and freedom of our great country.  I am proud of my husband and all our soldiers, seamen, airmen, and Marines who give selfless and honorable service EVERYDAY!  Thank you!!

I am sharing an oldie of mine as I have had family in town this weekend.  I made this a year ago for Memorial Day in remembrance of a good friend of my husband and I who was killed in Iraq.
Materials used: CTMH dp, NQN, K&CO brads, VV, CTMH

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Golden Communion

Hi everyone!! I was out of town for my nephew's communion and just had a wonderful time with my brother and his family! Can you believe that I had not seen them in 5 years?!?! Crazy...

I made my nephew a card and I wanted it to be clean.  For whatever reason, I always picture Communion cards to be "clean."

For this card, I used white and gold cs while the cross is embossed in gold.  I used Gina K's He has Risen set for this card thanks to my friend Stacy (Twinshappy) for letting me borrow it.  It really is a wonderful set and now I know why she was so excited to have it way back when she bought it!! {Waving... Hi Stac!}
I punched the corners of the gold cs with my ornate corner punch and embossed the cross on the white.  Once embossed, I took one of my petite oval Nestibilites to dry emboss the outside of the cross.  I covered the cross with the size I wanted and then turned the cs over. Using my stylus, I ran over the Nestie to give the dimension to the card I wanted.  A simple faux Nestie look.  I tucked in the main image into the corners and then stamped the sentiment on Acetate, using my heat gun to dry it, so that it can be overlaid on the cross. I then tucked that into each corner.   That is it! Simple and yet elegant!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking a peek!!

Materials used: Gina K, White and gold cs, gold ep, Versamark, Nestibilities, stylus, corner punch, acetate, Momento Brown

Flexible Friends

Hi everyone! I know it has been a few days, but I finally got around to feeling up to creating! I am battling some kind of cold, but really, I think it is allergies... I thought I would start with this card using MFT's Serenity Now set.

It is such a cute set and perfect for all you Yoga lovers!! : ) I did Yoga once.... LOL!! Notice I said once.... Anyway, my friend, whom I was best friends with through grade school and high school, is a Yoga instructor so this is for her.  She and I lost touch after high school, never knew where either of us were, and thanks to Facebook, we found each other!! We are very excited and she has already come to visit me which was so much fun!

I stamped the image with Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and colored it in using Copics.  I cut out the back panel with my Rectangle scalloped Nestibilities.  The dp is Basic Grey's Granola collection and the main card us SU! Confetti Cream cs.  I added ribbon and the 'OM' or 'AUM' (not sure which is correct) symbol for the finishing touch.  The main image panel and the sentiment are popped up for added effect.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek!

A creation, a winner, and my Blogaversary!!

Today is my one year Blogaversary! Whoo hoo!!  I have had so much fun sharing my creations over this past year! Thank you to everyone who supports and stops by my blog! Without you, I would not be able to enjoy my hobby so that I can share!!  Before I continue with yesterdays winner and the candy you can win today, I would like to share the project I mentioned about what you can do with your Prima Flower bottles if you don't want to throw them away!

This week was Teacher Appreciation and we had something different we were to send to the teachers everyday this week.  One of the days was something sweet and yesterday was some school supplies.  I have seen some glasses recently that had a small window of chalkboard material on the front for writing your name.  I decided I could do the same or something similar as a gift for the teachers.

I bought a can of Chalkboard spray-paint and cut out a template using my mega nestibilities curvy frame.  I used masking tape to hold the frame in place and cover the glass so not to get paint anywhere else.  I gave it couple of coats and let dry. Once it was dry, I peeled away all the tape and the template.  The paint has a tendency to get underneath the template, but I found that nail polish remover and some Q-tips worked great to remove the excess you did not want.  I filled the candy jar with M&M's and the Prima Bottle with some different pencils I picked up at a school supply store.  On the candy jar, I added some ribbon and tied a stick of chalk to the front while on the Prima jar, I added some ribbon that says 'Thanks' and a felt flower by Petaloo with a crystal brad.  Just really simple! You can do so much with with either project but I have twins, so that meant 4 projects total! I am into simple! LOL!!   I hope you enjoyed these projects! It is a good way to do some recycling!!

Month of the Military Child

Did you know that April was Month of the Military Child? This month is already over but I wanted to tribute these children with a card using Stephanie Fizer's set from MFT-Nite Nite Nellie.  I did alter the image to achieve the thought of this card.

Being a child is hard enough with the learning and changes that naturally take place in their lives. But also being a military child comes with other life changing factors that are stressful on them.  They see their parent or sometimes both parents deploy overseas, train for weeks away from home, go on long business trips, and unfortunately, one that you would never wish upon any child having to see- the death of a parent, neighbor, or friend.  Of course being a military family ourselves, we have been through some, if not all, of what I have mentioned.  However, I see the children adjusting to such changes; sometimes easily and sometimes not.  They deal with their emotions in their own way and their way sometimes does not make it easier on the parent left behind.  What does make it a little easier is when they are surrounded by friends who are also military, such as living or going to school on a military installation, and the unconditional love by their family, explaining the events as it occurs.  It doesn't always take the sting away from the child not understanding everything and the why's of the job that has taken his/her parent(s) away.  But I do hope during the month of April, people will always remember that these children are also the unsung heroes.

For this card, I stamped the image from the forehead down and drew in the kevlar hat and goggles.  I also drew in the American flag to look as though she was holding it from behind.  I wanted to keep the innocent look of the pajamas because I was thinking how my boys love to put on different pieces of my husbands uniform-usually in their pajamas.  (it just always happens when they are in their PJ's! LOL)  The Camo bg was printed from my computer just looking up a free graphic image from the web.  I then cut out the center using my Nestibilites petite ovals.  I colored in the image with Copics and sponged in a little color behind her.  I then cut out that image and pink bg with the petite oval nesties as well.  I tied little pink ribbons to the sides of the cut out oval and popped up that panel as well as the girl inside.  I punched out the sentiment 'Daddy's' with my 1"circle punch and then punched the bg scalloped with Paper Studio's 1 7/8" circle. The 'Little Girl' sentiment was punched using SU! WW punch.  All panels were then popped up with dimensionals.

Upcoming: Do you have empty Prima Flower bottles and hate to throw them away? I will have a project soon to share!!

**You still have time to enter my blog candy!! Just leave a comment here for your chance to win Carolyn King's new set of Nurse Feelgood!**

Thanks so much for stopping by and peeking!
